Auditions for the 2016 season will be held Saturday, June 11th from 9 AM to 12 Noon. Get the application here, fill it out, and return it as directed. String players are always in demand, and any further openings will be posted below.
They occur right at Glenbard South High School in the Music Department. There are always openings for all string sections, but the wind, brass, and percussion sections have only limited openings. The auditions are short and we provide the music after we receive your application. For questions, please contact us via e-mail or phone.
Besides general openings in all string sections, the following positions are available:
- 3rd Chair First Violin
- Assistant Principal Second Violin
- 3rd and 4th Chair Second Violin
- 3rd and 4th Chair Viola
- Principal Bass
- Assistant Principal Bass
- Third Flute/Piccolo
- Assistant Principal French Horn
- Second French Horn
- Fourth French Horn
- Second Trumpet
- Second Trombone
- Percussion: Accessories
In addition to regular openings, this year the following substitute positions need to be filled:
- Substitute Clarinet
- Substitute Trombone
Unless otherwise stated, all rehearsals take place Monday nights at 7:30 PM in the Glenbard South auditorium. The first rehearsal is on Monday, June 27th, and the last is on Friday, August 12th. There is a Monday rehearsal every week except July 4th. There will be three additional rehearsals on Wednesday, July 6th, Friday, July 29th, and Friday, August 5th. All of those are at 7:30 PM.
You should come prepared to each rehearsal, having practiced the home copies of the music. There is generally very little time for spot work, and there are no sectionals. All bowings for the strings are in the parts. If there is a question on bowings, talk to your section leader. For any questions on interpretation, refer those to the director.
Each stand will have an official green folder at rehearsals. Those remain at Glenbard South and are not to be taken home. If you wish to mark your home copy, please do so before or after rehearsal, or during the rehearsal break.
